The Power Of Truth,
The Lies Of Power

Speaking the Sad Truth to power: former interim prime minister Iyad Allawi told the BBC on Sunday:
"It is unfortunate that we are in civil war. We are losing each day as an average 50 to 60 people throughout the country, if not more. If this is not civil war, then God knows what civil war is."
A police headquarters north of Baghdad was attacked by rebels Monday killing 18. Throughout Iraq, according to AP, the day's death toll was at least 39.

If that's not dismaying enough, Iraq scholar Juan Cole lists the "Top ten Catatstrophes of the Third year of American Iraq." It is a sobering list.

In Washington, dozens of anti-war protesters were arrested near the Pentagon.

Meantime, official baloney and bafflegab continued.
In London, UK Defense Minister John Reid said, "The situation in Iraq is serious but it is not terminal. ... There is certainly nothing inevitable about a slide towards civil war."
In Cleveland Ohio, the man in the White House praised "the progress made in bringing more Iraqi security forces online is helping to bring peace and stability to Iraqi cities."

And there was no news on Monday of the three CPT peace workers still held captive in Iraq.
